That has since been remedied. Not only that, but as a result of the two crashes, the Max 8 has become one of the most scrutinized aircraft currently in use, so any issue that arises now will get major attention from airlines and regulators. Thousands of people, myself included, fly on Max 8 planes every day without issue.
According to data from ch-aviation.com, Sunwing Airlines' 17-aircraft fleet consists of two different Boeing 737 variants. The dominant version is the popular 737-800, whose 11 examples have an average age of 9.5 years old. However, at the younger end of the spectrum, it also flies six examples of the MAX 8 (3.8 years on average).
The 737-800 is stretched further than the 737-700, making it a good replacement for the 737-400. It takes passenger capacity up to 189. This is increased further on the longest model – the 737-900ER, with a capacity of up to 220 passengers (the 737-900 is limited to 189 due to only having one less set of exit doors).
The BBC is reporting that the production of 737 aircraft has been reduced from 52 to 42 per month due to a loss of 737-Max orders. It isn't clear in the report whether the Max is the only 737 being made now. Does Boeing currently produce any other models of the 737 or is the Max the only one?
